Job Title: Vocational Skills Training Coordinator

Reporting to: Programs Director

Organization: Kwithu Women’s Group

Location: Luwinga Ward, Malawi

Job Purpose

As part of its strategic evolution, Kwithu Women’s Group seeks a Vocational Skills Training Coordinator to spearhead the implementation of vocational skills training programs with initial funding from the Egmont Trust for four trades; Carpentry, Tailoring, Bricklaying, and Food production. Working closely with stakeholders, the coordinator will lead efforts to empower young people and women within the community by equipping them with practical skills to create their own employment opportunities. The coordinator will also work closely with the business community for possible employment and internship opportunities for the trainees in the program. Working closely with TEVETA the key implementing partner for the project. This role will be instrumental in advancing Kwithu’s mission of holistic community development and contributing to the socio-economic well-being of individuals in Luwinga Ward, Malawi.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Program Implementation: Implement Egmont funded vocational skills training programs in carpentry, tailoring, bricklaying, and food production that align with the needs and aspirations of the community.
  2. Partnership Management: Establish and maintain partnerships with external institutions, organizations, and community leaders to facilitate the delivery of vocational skills training programs.
  3. Curriculum Design: Develop comprehensive training curricula for various trades, ensuring alignment with industry standards and market demand hand in hand with TEVETA.
  4. Training Delivery: Oversee the delivery of vocational skills training programs, including managing, supervising, coordinating with training instructors as well as; scheduling, facilitation, and evaluation of training sessions.
  5. Participant Recruitment: Lead efforts to recruit program participants, with a focus on engaging youth and women from the local community.
  6. Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to assess the effectiveness and impact of vocational skills training programs, making necessary adjustments for continuous improvement.
  7. Resource Mobilization: In addition to managing the Egmont Trust Funds, identify funding opportunities and assist in the development of grant proposals to secure financial support for vocational skills training initiatives.
  8. Community Engagement: Foster community engagement and support for vocational skills training programs through outreach, advocacy, and awareness-raising activities specifically with the block leaders and development committee.
  9. Capacity Building: Provide training and mentorship to program staff, volunteers, and trainers involved in vocational skills training activities.
  10. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare regular reports for Egmont Trust in addition to regular reports on program activities, outcomes, and challenges for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a Malawi TEVET certificate at level three or higher, Advanced Malawi Craft Certificate (MANEB), or Advanced City and Guilds Certificate. Candidates with multiple certificates will be preferred. 
  • Certification as a TEVET trainer with demonstrated experience in vocational skills training. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Passion for community development and a commitment to empowering marginalized groups, particularly women and youth.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving.
